Privacy Policy

Effective 11 October 2026 · GunKeeper is made by David Perkins. On Google Play it is published by ClarityIP LLC.

In short: your collection stays on your device and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud. GunKeeper has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we never receive a copy of your records. The only time anything leaves your device for us is when you ask the AI to identify a firearm from a photo, and we don't keep those photos.

What GunKeeper stores, and where

Everything you enter (makes, models, serial numbers, values, markings, notes and photos) is stored on your device. It is encrypted by the operating system whenever your device is locked, and GunKeeper can require Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint, face unlock or your passcode to open.

On iPhone and iPad: if iCloud sync is on (it is by default, and you can turn it off in GunKeeper's More tab), the same data is kept in GunKeeper's area of your own private iCloud database. That copy belongs to your Apple ID: we cannot see it, and Apple handles it under the Apple Privacy Policy. Turning on Advanced Data Protection in your iCloud settings adds end-to-end encryption.

On Android: the collection is kept in GunKeeper's private storage, which Android encrypts. If Android backup is on for your Google account, it includes your records, settings and small copies of your photos. GunKeeper only allows that backup when Android can end-to-end encrypt it with your screen lock, so Google can't read it. Full-size photos are not included in that backup; to keep them, save a GunKeeper backup file (More → Backup), which goes wherever you choose.

Serial numbers and receipts

When you photograph a serial number, a marking or a receipt, the text is read on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition on iPhone and iPad, or Google's on-device ML Kit text recognition on Android. Those photos are never sent to us or anyone else.

AI identification

AI identification is optional. GunKeeper asks for your permission the first time, and you can turn it off at any time in the More tab.

When you use it, the whole-firearm photo you took is sent over an encrypted connection to GunKeeper's identification service, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude AI to suggest the make, model and caliber. No serial numbers you typed, no other records and nothing that identifies you are sent with it.

What we don't do

Deleting your data

Delete any item from its page in the app. Deleting the app removes the on-device copy. To remove the iCloud copy on Apple devices, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → GunKeeper and delete the data. On Android, Google backups can be managed in your Google account's backup settings. GunKeeper backup files you saved stay wherever you saved them until you delete them.

Age

GunKeeper is meant for adults who legally own firearms. It is not directed at anyone under 18.
